Tasting Notes

Coronato is produced from grapes grown in Marchese Lodovico Antinori’s Tenuta dei Pianali estate vineyard in Bolgheri in the Alta Maremma region in Tuscany. The wine was named after Monte Coronato, the highest of the peaks rising directly behind the vineyard.
Grapes are sorted, destemmed and softcrushed. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in concrete vats for three to four weeks at 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit). Malolactic fermentation occurres in stainless-steel tanks.
The wine is aged for twelve months in new and 2-year-old French oak barriques and another 6 months in bottle prior to release.
40% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc, Coronato is characterized by its deep ruby-red color and intense and complex aromas of dark cherries, prunes, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The palate is balanced with a nice acidity, velvety tannins and a fine, lengthy finish.

Critical Praise

The 2010 Coronato is laced with hints of spice, tobacco, mocha, plum, black cherry and scorched earth, all supported by firm tannins. The showiness typical of Maremma is tempered by the cool vintage, resulting in a striking wine that impresses for its contrasts and balance.
