Tasting Notes

Sourced from vineyards belonging to historical growers in Neive, with South-West exposure, with an average age of 20 years, at a yield of 50 hl/ha. Harvested over three days Sept 21-23, 2011, the wine fermented in stainless steel vats for 10 days, after which the malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine was then matured for 14 months in barrel and a further 3 months in bottle before release.

Alcohol: 14.5%

Red-ruby colour. The bouquet presents red fruits and black cherry notes. On the palate, the wine is fresh, full-bodied, harmonious with fresh and balanced acidity. Drink 2013-2018.

2012 not yet rated but the 2011 received 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

“The 2011 Barbera d’Alba (fruit from three different sources) is enormously soft and plush in the mouth with ripe blackberry and plum throughout. Some 14 months of barrel give the wine extra texture and softness on the finish. Anticipated maturity. 2014-2020.

With the return of winemaker Dante Scaglione in 2011, the wines of Bruno Giacosa (-the genius of Neive-) continue to impress. Bruna Giacosa, Bruno-s daughter, has taken over daily operations at the winery since her father suffered a stroke in 2006.” 90 pts, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate.
