Tasting Notes

CA' DEL MONTE is the name of a location that looks over the village of Negrar, North of Verona, in the heart of Valpolicella. The winery, today directed with lots of enthusiasm by the young brothers Umberto and Giuseppe Zanconte, has been in the Zanconte family for generations. The two brothers work the land and manage all steps of production. The winery lays on 50 acres of vineyards, located on the hillsides of Negrar, perfectly exposed to the sun, looking south, south-west at an altitude of 270-300M. The vineyard is planted with 20-40 year old vines of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and other indigenous varietals.

Serve with game meats, roast chicken, wood over pizza and /or pasta with full flavored sauces.

Grape Blend: 45% Corvina / 35% Rondinella / 15% Negrara / 5% Pelara
Oak aging: 18 Months

Critical Praise

This Ripasso shows a pure red-berry / black-cherry bouquet with grilled herbs, iris, violet and almond. Despite the depth of flavors, it is silky and warm with a surprisingly elegant mid-weight mouth feel that finishes with plump fruit and a well integrated spicy/oak kiss. This is a wine that is ready to consume over the next 12 months. Open a bottle and enjoy the taste experience as it evolves in the glass.

This is a small 2000 case cuvee. It is not presented to the press since it is released on allocation for various markets, mostly local, when the winemaker says it is ready to drink. Usually 4 yrs +
