Tasting Notes

Ruby red with a garnet hue. Aromas of forest berries and sour cherries with earth notes. Harmonious on the palate with soft fine tannins, medium-body and delicate forest fruit flavours.
Recommended pairings: Red meats, lamb, fowl, and game
Serving temperature: 16 - 18° C (61 - 64° F)
Cellaring potential: 8 - 10 years

This Pinot Noir flourishes in the vineyards around Mazzon. These hills, a conglomerate of particular soils of loam, chalk, and porphyry, and the very well-suited climate, form the ideal basis for producing a Pinot Noir of international stature.

Yield per hectare: 50 hl.

Vinification: The stems are immediately removed and the grapes are fermented at a constant temperature of 26 - 28° C (79 - 82° F) for about 10 days. The must is kept in contact with the skins through circulation pumping and gentle pressure from below. We thus achieve ideal results in colour from the skins and emphasize the fruitiness of the wine. After two gentle rackings, 70% of this Pinot Noir is aged over 12 months in large barrels of French oak, and the remainder is aged in small casks of French oak (barriques) which are 2 - 3 years old. After blending, 750 mL Bordeaux-style bottles are filled and the wine is aged an additional 6 months in the bottle before it is released.

Critical Praise

2009 vintage rated 4 out of 5 'grappoli', in the 2012 edition of Bibenda Wine "The guide to the finest Italian wines". 2010 ratings have not yet been published.
