Tasting Notes

Carol & Mitch Mackenzie, her husband and business partner, have sought out exceptional vineyards throughout California including Dry Creek Valley, Rockpile, Russian River Valley, Fountaingrove District, Paso Robles, Lodi, Mendocino County, and the Cucamonga Valley of Southern California. Many of her vineyard sources are organically grown, dry farmed and many decades old. She develops close partnerships with each grower to ensure her wines maintain and express the unique terroir of the vineyard.

Carol Shelton has won Winemaker of the Year five times, has countless gold medals for her wines and was named one of eight Pioneer Women Winemakers of Sonoma County in 2005. She continues to win awards and accolades – her 2011 Wild Thing Zinfandel was included in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2014.

A rendezvous with friends is all the more delicious a pleasure over a bottle of luscious chilled dry rosé, hence the name “Rendezvous Rosé”. Created by bleeding half of the “pink” juice off of red Carignane grapes a full three days after crushing them, it is fermented cold like a white wine to retain every delicious drop of crisp strawberry fruitiness.

Light cranberry colour, juicy strawberry-watermelon fruit aromas, nice mineral, lift of spring flowers and fresh zest from cara-cara oranges, tangy vanilla crème fraîche on strawberry shortcake! Refreshingly crisp and dry, mouth-watering actually. Great with almost any food, from sushi to salmon to BBQ!

Critical Praise

"This California rosé has a vibrant cherry Kool-Aid colour and that matches the cherry aromas that greet the nose plus a little raspberry and watermelon - drier than one would expect from a Zin-based rosé, but with all the fruit you'd expect from Cali and Zin: strawberry-cherry in the mouth,
with hints of Jolly Rancher cherry-watermelon (is that even a flavour of theirs?). (*** ½)" - Michael Pinkus, Rosé Report 2021

"From California’s Queen of Zinfandel, Carol Shelton has hit a home run once again with this Mendocino County beauty. Bright Chinese red in colour, with raspberry, cherry, cranberry and strawberry fruit that is crisp and clean. The
orange zest wakens the palate and all the while, having the sense and flavour of sucking on a watermelon Jolly Rancher hard candy. Blended with 62% Carignane, 36% Zinfandel and 2% Petite Sirah, it is juicy with the right balance of mineral and acidity with a long tantalizing finish." - Dave Burzynski, Michael Pinkus Rosé Report 2021
