Tasting NotesField blend of 40% Antão Vaz, 40% Roupeiro and 20% Arinto. This wine is a field blend of 40% Antão Vaz, 40% Roupeiro and 20% Arinto, grown on infertile rocky schist soils naturally producing low yields of concentrated fruit. Grape quality is assured by restricting yield to below 7000 kg/ha and employing careful canopy management practices. At harvest the grapes are selectively hand-picked into small boxes at their peak of maturity All bunches are inspected for quality on a sorting table before they are gently whole-cluster pressed at low temperature. Suspended solids are allowed to settle naturally before fermenting the juice at 12C in stainless steel tanks. Tasting note: “Bright, pale yellow. Med+ int. chalky minerality dominates the nose with pear, peach and starfruit. Dry, med body, med+ acid, med alc, white peaches, pear fill the palate, and lime and apple persist on the finish. Delicious sweet core of ripe fruit on mid palate while finish is dry. As it opens, notes of pineapple emerge. Good length. Tasted Feb 24, 2014.” Bernard Stramwasser, Sommelier In the Vineyard: The ripening months in Southern Portugal’s Alentejo region are hot and dry with cold nights. Critical Praise2019 hasn't yet been rated but 2018 vintage received 91 points John Szabo (Wine Align) "Full and fleshy, and well balanced, this packs a wallop of flavour in the ripe fruit spectrum, white fleshed, also yellow, but balanced and long. No obvious oak influence noted, but richly textured. Lovely stuff. Classy, complete, table-friendly, fresher than the mean. Quality." |
