Loimer Riesling Kamptal DAC 2011 |
Tasting NotesAromas of lime, green apple, apricot and undertones of fine blossoms. The palate reveals delicate, juicy fruitiness. A distinct play between sweetness and acidity lends finesse and lightness to the wine. A classic, refreshing Riesling. Certified biodynamic & organic by RESPEKT, the Loimer wine estate in Langenlois is one of the most treasured in the Austrian wine scene. The historic cellar, which dates back to the 19th century, acquired a contemporary counterpart in 2000. Tradition and innovation is an expression of the philosophy that also can be found in this wine. Not a typical Reisling: only 2.3 g/l of RS, 6.8 g/l acidity = dry! 12.5% Alc./Vol. |
Critical Praise2011 vintage has not yet been rated, however the 2010 received 88 pts from Wine Advocate: "Loimer’s basic Kamptal 2010 Riesling delivers luscious, juicy apricot and lime tinged with pepper and boasting an Austrian Urgestein-typical sense of tactile impingement. Seamless, persistently refreshing, and with no indication of a price having been paid for some must de-acidification, this ought to delight for at least the next couple of years. Fred Loimer insists that his own crop losses in 2010 – when he harvested from mid-October through November 10 – were a mere 10-15% vis-a-vis 2009, but notes that when it came to those growers from whom he purchases fruit for his less-expensive bottlings, reductions were much more significant. Loimer de-acidified the musts for some of his less-expensive wines, but placed emphasis on the time his young 2010s spent fermenting – even the lighter cuvees were not finished until February – and on their lees. He also relied on (generally 12-18 hours’) pre-fermentative skin contact to both reduce and eventually help buffer the vintage’s high acidity; and this year not even the grapes for his lightest wines were pressed whole-cluster." |
