Bodegas Tajinaste Paisaje de Las Islas DOP Islas Canaries 2021

Tasting NotesEstablished in 1977, commercializing the Garćia Farráis family vineyards in the Orotava Valley on Tenerife, part of the Canary Islands. Some of the family’s oldest stocks of Listán negro and Listán blanco vines were planted in 1914, using a unique horizontal vine training system known as multiple braided cordon (cordón múltiple trenzado). Newer vineyards use the more common single- and double-Cordon (Royat) trellising systems. Working with indigenous varieties, the modern winery respects family and regional traditions, as well the unique geography - high-altitude vineyards - and volcanic soil of Tenerife, to create wines of great character and individuality. The Enologist is Agustin G. Farráis. Translated, the name of the wine refers to the “landscape of the islands”. As a wine it represents the terroirs and grapes of the Canaries. For the flagship white wine bearing this name it reflects the uniqueness of Tenerife specifically. Made of equal parts Marmajuelo (pronounced mar-ma-hwey-ho) and Malvasia Aromática hand-harvested in early September from hillside vineyards (with volcanic soils) at a height of 250-500 metres above sea level. The Malvasia vines are on trellises and pruned using the cordon royat technique, while the Marmajuelo vines follow the traditional Canarian cordón múltiple trenzado system. Following one day of cold, pre-fermentative, maceration, vinification is in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks (10 hl) and lasts approximately 10 days. Thirty-percent of the wine is aged for 5 months in new French- and American-oak barrels of 500L, and the rest is kept in stainless steel tanks after blending. R.S. < 2.0gr/L.;13.5% alc./vol. Our Tasting Note: Bright, straw yellow colour. Tropical aromatics reminiscent of canned pineapple, mango, orange citrus and apricot, with fennel, (slight toffee), and mineral notes. Medium-bodied, crisp acidity, and a dry, rich, clean finish. Pairing suggestions: Very elegant on its own. It will handle fuller-style dishes, include shellfish, seafood, white meats, and poultry. |
