Tasting Notes

Winemaker Drew Noon describes the 2012 Eclipse:

The new Eclipse lifts my spirits! Such purity and generosity of flavour is a rare treat. It fully refelcts the smaller Grenache crop this year (down by 38% on 2011) and the earlier/warmer 2012 season, with greater depth and opulence of flavour. Once again the Eclipse has been produced entirely from our McLaren Vale estate vineyards and is predominantly Grenache (also in the blend are small amounts of Shiraz, Graciano and Cabernet Sauvignon).

Best drinking now to 2020+

Critical Praise

2011 Eclipse - 95 Points Robert Parker:

Made from a blend of 82% Grenache, 13% Shiraz and 5% Graciano fruit all from Noon’s McLaren Vale Estate vineyards, the 2011 Noon Eclipse is pale to medium garnet-purple colored with pronounced notes of black pepper, kirsch, black raspberries and mulberries over nuances of lavender, Provence herbs, and underbrush plus a whiff of orange zest. Very full bodied and opulent in the mouth, it has red berry preserve flavors complemented by an array of exotic spices and floral notes that are supported by refreshing, balanced acid and a medium level of finely grained tannins. It finishes very long. It is delicious now, though it will reward with cellaring and drink best from 2015 to 2028+.

2010 Eclipse - 94 Points Robert Parker:

"Deep garnet-purple coloured, Noon’s 2010 Eclipse offers an intense, complex nose with a core of ripe black cherries and blackberries over hints of mint, dark chocolate, violets, yeast extract and toast. Full bodied yet beautifully elegant in the mouth, it offers an excellent concentration of fruit marked by crisp acid and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins. The finish is long and layered. Still youthfully taut and primary, it should drink best 2013 to 2020+." 94 points
