Le Sommelier Mixed Case: Blankiet 2015
Tasting NotesMIXED CASE : BLANKIET 2015 This mixed case contains three bottles of each wine Blankiet Rive Droite Paradise Hills Vineyard 2015. From their organically farmed Paradise Hills Vineyard Estate, this is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. It aged 19 months in French oak. “Composed mainly of Merlot with a splash of Cabernet Franc, the ultra-sensuous 2015 Rive Droite Paradise Hills Vineyard reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and gorgeous nose of allspice, cinnamon, dried roses and lavender over a core of preserved plums, blueberry compote and mulberries. The elegant, beautifully poised medium to full-bodied palate weaves in an earthy element among the perfumed black fruits, framed by firm yet oh-so-finely grained tannins, finishing long and softly spoken. Very classy wine! Drink 2020-2040.” - 98 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, Wine Advocate, October 31, 2017. Blankiet Proprietary Red Paradise Hills Vineyard 2015. From their organically farmed Paradise Hills Vineyard Estate, this is a blend of 84.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.0% Merlot, 4.8% Cabernet Franc, 4.0% Petit Verdot. It aged 19 months in French oak. “The 2015 Proprietary Red is a model of total elegance and finesse. Lifted and aromatically expressive, but also quite deep, the 2015 is another wine that is surprisingly fresh and vibrant. Aromatically expressive and nuanced, the 2015 is silky and plush on the palate, yet also remains remarkably tight on its feet. This is one of the most exquisitely beautiful, riveting wines I have tasted from Claude & Katherine Blankiet.” - 98 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2018. |
Critical PraiseOwners Claude and Katherine Blankiet spent many years searching for a specific hillside vineyard on the western side of Napa Valley. Finally, in 1996 they purchased 50 acres of land that previously was part of Domain Chandon’s holdings but was never planted. This is prime vineyard land; perhaps it is surprising that it was never developed as such considering it sits directly west of Dominus Estate and one of the Napa Valley’s most historic vineyard sites, Napanook Vineyard. The Blankiets brought in Helen Turley and David Abreu to help them develop the property and named the vineyards Paradise Hills. Claude calls his vineyard “a puzzle of microclimates” and terroir. It is a remarkable property where 100 points Cabernet Sauvignon are produced next to 100 points Merlot wines. |
