Tasting Notes

This wine is a nod to the old tradition that made Trebbiano a compulsory component of any Chianti blend. Almost entirely Sangiovese with just a touch of Trebbiano, Alberese is such a delicious, simple and easy drinking wine that it could go with just about anything. The perfect wine to have on the rack when friends turn up unexpectedly!

Critical Praise

"From vineyards in Montelupo Fiorentino, 20 kms from Florence, down the hill that borders the east side of the Arno valley. Alberese (from the trees, which must be a reference to the abundance of olive groves on the estate) is a unique blend of 80 per cent sangiovese with (20) trebbiano toscano taken from "ungrateful" soils. This is Tuscan wine the way it was in tended to me made before the pure-blood, red race rules took over the region. The Sammontana way is one of biodynamics, water dynamization and this Alberese falls into so many natural, need to know ways. Minimal sulphur, wild ferment, crazy co-mingling, tingling alive and kicking red meets white. A mild salumi melds into the way less than funky aromatics though there is some rare game bird ferment on the palate. Otherwise a crucible of clean, pure and crushable grapes. Drink 2017-2018.
