Tasting Notes

Vito Lauria is a Sicilian local. After studying winemaking in Friuli, he returned home in 2005 to take over his family's winery in the west of Sicily, renovating the vineyards, focusing on organic viticulture. He focuses on Sicilian indigenous varieties, like Grillo, Catarratto, Fontane Bianche, and Zibibbo for whites, plus Nero d’Avola, Perricone, Nerello Mascalese and Frappato for reds. His 70 hectares of vineyards are spread throughout Alcamo, ranging from 600-1000 meters and on clay and calcareous soils.

This is sourced from Sambuca di Sicilia, and sees time in stainless only to preserve freshness. Pouring a lighter red hue, this slender red is teeming with fresh walnuts, wild plums, and red currants. Brisk acidity counters the sun-ripened fruit easily, leaving a suggestion of Sicily's warm climate in the tuggy tannins. Take with a light chill.

This is not Etna’s nerello by any stretch, in fact the deeper, riper and furthered volatility over fruit is rampant and striking. Carries a naturalishe feel as much as any of its ilk with exceptional texture and stainless steel raised Sicilian rapport."
