Tasting Notes

An organic wine (vino biologico), made using the ancient Governo all’uso Toscano technique, a way to naturally increase smoothness and reduce acidity in wines made from Sangiovese and other local Tuscan varieties.

Intense ruby red which evolves to garnet red when aged. Lovely and well-balanced on the nose, with predominantly cherry and berry notes. Velvety and generous on the palate, with sweet, soft tannins.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 70% Sangiovese, 15% Ciliegiolo, 15% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

ORIGIN: Municipality of Cinigiano, Province of Grosseto, Maremma region, Tuscany, Italy.

AGING: For 10 months, 50% in oak and 50% in stainless steel tanks. Minimum refinement of 6 months in bottle.

ALCOHOL: 14%.

PAIRING: This wine will go perfectly with most dishes, and it is particularly well suited to game, grilled meats, hearty soups, and mature cheeses.

WHY YOU WANT IT:
This versatile food wine would make a great gift for someone who prefers organic. It's Tuscan with a twist; share this off-the-beaten-path wine with Chianti lovers for something familiar but different.

Critical Praise

THE STORY BEHIND THIS WINE:
Le Chiantigiane is a cooperative/consortium of small Tuscan winegrowers set up in 1967. They are dedicated to the quality, protection, promotion, and distribution of their excellent Tuscan wines throughout the world.

Between their some 2,000 members, they cultivate 2,460 hectares of working vineyards.

The consortium enables small producers to share bottling facilities as well as technical, agronomic and technological support from enologists.

This wine, Sassorotto, comes from the up-and-coming appellation, Montecucco DOC, located right between the Brunello di Montalcino zone and the Morellino di Scansano zone.
