Tasting Notes

The history of the Zorzettig family in wine begins more than 100 years ago, on the hills of Spessa di Cividale in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, an ideal place for viticulture thanks to a unique terroir and microclimate.

Refosco has been mentioned since ancient times as a wine of great renown. The origin of the name is owed to the Romans, Racimulus fucus, an expression translated into vernacular as ràp fosc, which means dark grape cluster, precisely due to its intense colour. The first documents to speak about it date back to 1347, where it is described together with Ribolla Gialla, as being among the most prestigious and expensive grape varieties. The name of the grapevine includes the peculiarity of the grape cluster, characterised by the reddish colour of its bunch-stem.

This 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso has an intense ruby colour; a heady bouquet with fruity overtones reminiscent of raspberries and black cherries. The palate is full and lusty with a modest tannic weave which sustains the wine during the ageing phase.
