Latido de Sara Wild Garnacha 2022
|
||||||||||||||||
Tasting NotesThe Latido de Sara wines are made in the oldest winery in Navarra Province - San Martin de Unx - who also have the best and oldest Garnacha grapes in the area. Many of the vines are planted on gentle hillside slopes (~650 meters in altitude), which are a unique characteristic of the Navarra landscape. Their wines are based mainly on Garnacha (Grenache) grapes, from low-yield vines over 30 years old, while the Crianza also includes Tempranillo. They use a small amount of local Navarra-oak barrels in the Crianza, to support the region and the landscape. These wines are a dream fulfilled for Sara Martinez-Lagos and Leon Florez, who combined have more than 25 years experience in the wine trade. They chose the name Latido de Sara - “Sara’s Heartbeat - in honour of Sara’s father who passed away a few years ago, and who always encouraged her to follow her own path, and to make her own wine. The overall philosophy of the range - white, rosé, and red - is to produce intensely flavoured and complex wines which faithfully reflect the nature and terroir of Navarra Province. "Wild Garnacha" is made from 100% Garnacha grapes - from 30-35 year old vines - grown on hillside slopes with predominantly clay/limestone soil. Yields are less than 4.5 kgs./Ha. Following a traditional red wine production, the wine is aged for 4 months in American and Navarra oak barrels (5%). Navarra oak performs similar to French oak, and the usage is a research collaboration with a Department of the Navarra Government. Alc./vol.: 13.9%. R.S. 4.7 gr./L. Our tasting note: Bright burgundy red colour. Aromas and flavours of ripe, sweet fruits - cherry, strawberry, and raspberry - with sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, and balsamic/spices. Medium-bodied, dry, well balanced, with a long, finish. Pairing recommendations: Charcuterie, grilled meat dishes, earthy vegetarian dishes, and great for enjoying with barbecued/grilled meats with spicy/smoky sauces. |
